Ouachita Parish’s tech-forward approach to public safety
"If you haven't accepted the fact that technology is here to stay in law enforcement, you're way behind."
- Sheriff Marc Mashaw, Ouachita Parish S.O.
Technology transforming Law Enforcement
In North Louisiana, the Ouachita Parish Sheriff’s Office (OPSO) manages a diverse landscape ranging from city centers to rural forests. For Sheriff Marc Mashaw, "good enough" was never the standard. Recognizing that modern law enforcement is guided by data as much as by "boots on the ground," the Sheriff's Office went all in on a unified technology ecosystem.
Connected Communications
Eliminated dangerous dead zones in schools and rural areas with APX N70 Smart Radios
Real-Time Awareness
Supervisors see exact locations and stream live video to the RTCC to back up deputies using CC Aware
Objective Video Evidence
Body and in-car cameras streamline investigations, capture vital details, and ensure accountability
Challenge: Overcoming operational blind spots
Reliable communication was a constant struggle for deputies, particularly in rural areas and metal-reinforced schools. Command posts relied solely on radio traffic, leaving supervisors blind to real-time conditions. Investigations depended on manual, paper-based processes prone to delays, and finding missing persons required exhaustive foot searches. In dangerous situations, the lack of signal meant officers couldn't coordinate or easily call for help during an active crisis.
How we helped: A technology ecosystem
OPSO partnered with Motorola Solutions to establish a Real-Time Crime Center (RTCC) powered by CommandCentral Aware. They deployed APX N70 smart radios to maintain connectivity, alongside V700 body cameras and M500 video systems to capture objective evidence. The agency also integrated L5F Fixed License Plate Recognition to compress suspect search times and BRINC responder drones to get eyes on the scene before deputies even arrive.
Impact: Saving critical minutes
and seconds
The technology ecosystem has turned every radio and camera into a lifeline. Dangerous dead zones are eliminated, and supervisors can dispatch medical aid instantly by monitoring live streams. Investigations are streamlined with comprehensive video evidence, while frivolous complaints have become virtually nonexistent. Suspect tracking is compressed from days into minutes, and drones can locate missing persons rapidly—giving the agency the one thing they need most: time.
“Currency for people is dollars and cents. But with this technology, currency in public safety is minutes and seconds. That’s what matters the most, especially when someone’s life depends on it.”

Ouachita Parish Sheriff’s Office, Head of Real-Time Crime Center
“Motorola Solutions dash and body cameras have strengthened accountability across our agency, giving deputies the confidence to do their jobs knowing the truth is always documented.”
