    • Motorola Solutions’ Avigilon CCTV solutions are now certified by the Surveillance Camera Commissioners

Published Oct 08 2020, 1:19 PM by Matthew Hetherington

Motorola Solutions’ Avigilon CCTV solutions are now certified by the Surveillance Camera Commissioners (SCC). The self-certification verifies that Avigilon’s technology meets the requirements for ensuring that their video security systems are designed and manufactured in a manner that assures that they are secure by default and design. The certification affirms Motorola Solutions’ innovative work within the cybersecurity space.

By following the Secure by Default guidance, Motorola Solutions is demonstrating its commitment to developing products that are protected against current cyber security threats, at the point of manufacture. The Secure by Default certification means that the technology will meet certain requirements that ensure a configuration that is the most secure when the component is shipped. This makes it more likely that once the system is installed, it will remain in a secure state against certain cyber threats.

The requirements requested by this self-certification mean that the UK’s resilience against cyber security attacks via video surveillance systems is higher. The requirements are an important step forward for manufacturers, installers and users alike to provide the best possible assurance for stakeholders that products are as secure as possible against cyberattacks.

Tony Porter, Surveillance Camera Commissioner, said: “Many congratulations to Motorola Solutions’ Video Security and Analytics team in certifying their products as ‘secure by default’. The certification mark demonstrates to customers and stakeholders alike that the products listed on my website meet the minimum requirements I expect in terms of cyber-secure surveillance camera products. It is crucial that consumers know that the surveillance camera devices they purchase are cyber-secure. So, it’s great that we have a number of proactive manufacturers like Motorola Solutions leading the way toward a common goal to develop products to mitigate potential cyber-threats”.

The certification is an important achievement for the Video Security & Analytics team at Motorola Solutions as it is expected to form part of a bigger picture in the near future, where there will be greater guidance around the design and deployment of CCTV in the UK. Consultants using Secure By Default will be able to use the guidance to form part of their product selection for their design specifications. This guidance forms part of a wider suite of documentation being developed as part of the SCC Strategy in support of the SCC Code of Practice.
