Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) FAQ
The FY2025 Edward Byrne Memorial JAG Program is now open. At Motorola Solutions, we are here to help your agency maximize this leading source of federal justice funding.
Q: What is the JAG grant?
A: The Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Program is the leading source of federal justice funding to state and local jurisdictions. The program provides agencies with the flexibility to prioritize and address the most critical resource gaps in their local justice systems. By funding improvements in technology, equipment and specialized training, the JAG program streamlines law enforcement operations, enhances officer safety and promotes community-wide crime reduction strategies.
Q: Who is eligible for the JAG grant?
A: Eligibility for the JAG program includes state governments, as well as city and county departments of criminal justice and law enforcement agencies. Funding is typically divided into two categories:
- Direct "Local" formula allocations for larger jurisdictions
- "State" pass-through solicitations for smaller agencies and regional projects
Q: What solutions are eligible for the JAG grant?
A: JAG funds can be used for a broad range of mission-critical law enforcement technologies and programs, including
- Mission-critical communications: P25-compliant portable and mobile radios (such as the APX series) to ensure interoperability.
- Video security & analytics: Body-worn cameras, in-car video systems and fixed site security.
- Command center software: Real-time crime center (RTCC) tools, incident management software and digital evidence management systems.
- Officer safety equipment: Modernization of tactical equipment and specialized training programs.
- Counter UAS and Perimeter Security: Clear airspace with our counterUAS and long-range thermal cameras. Manage airspace with SkySafe, a SaaS platform that maps drones’ real-time and historical flight paths and operators’ locations. Achieve early warnings using our Jaegar long-range cameras paired with sensors, radar, lidar, and other detection technologies, and CRFS to locate operators by detecting RF emissions and electromagnetic pulses for signal analysis.
- Drone Detection: SkySafe’s cloud-based drone detection platform provides comprehensive airspace awareness and advanced drone forensics. Tested by the FAA and made in the U.S., this technology will provide Motorola Solutions customers with enhanced airspace security and drone investigation capabilities.
