WAVE Privacy Policy


About This Policy

We at Motorola Solutions, Inc. (‘MSI’, “we”, “us” or “our”) have developed this Privacy Policy because we care about how information you provide to us is used and shared. This Privacy Policy describes the privacy practices for WAVE Mobile Communicator, WAVE PTT Mobile Application, WAVE PTX, WAVE OnCloud, WAVE Push-to-Talk, WAVE PTT Web Dispatch, WAVE Customer Portal, and Kodiak, provided by Motorola Solutions, Inc. (hereinafter collectively referred to as “WAVE”). This Privacy Policy relates to the information collection and use practices of WAVE. By using this Application, you are agreeing to the terms of this Privacy Policy and the accompanying Terms of Use. This Privacy Policy is a supplement to the Motorola Solutions Privacy Statement which covers additional privacy practices.  In the event of a conflict between this Privacy Policy, the Motorola Solutions Privacy Statement, and the applicable contract entered into by your organization for the provision of WAVE (the “Contract”), the conflicting terms shall be resolved by giving precedence in the following order:  a) the Contract; b) this Privacy Policy; and c) the Motorola Solutions Privacy Statement. Any questions regarding the Contract should be directed to your organization.

Information We Collect

By using WAVE, you accept that Motorola Solutions will access certain information, including your location and will share it with others with whom you share Talk Groups when location sharing is enabled. You must opt-in to share your location, and you can opt-out at any time while you are signed in.

WAVE may collect basic usage information (e.g., device status, device type, device OS and the browser utilized to download the application) to help provide better service and improve our product. This information is obtained anonymously and is not associated with any specific user information (for example, username or organization). 

WAVE will retain various user preferences across sessions based on a unique username and server address combination for a specific device..

How We Collect Information

We collect information directly from your mobile device. We collect information from your mobile device based on your opt-in choices in your App Settings (e.g. location services).This information is passed through to other members in your Talk Groups but is not retained anywhere.

How We Use/Store Information

WAVE does not retain any audio or data transmission locally on your device. This information is only temporarily displayed in the application’s user interface during your active session. None of this information persists across an intentional sign out/sign in.

Your Display Name is displayed to other members currently online who share your Talk Groups.

Information Sharing

Any information disclosed in transmissions and texts can be collected and used by other members on your system with whom you are communicating, WAVE cannot prevent the use of any other applications on a device which might include audio and screen recording applications. Users should follow their organization’s information security and privacy protection policies while using WAVE.

Motorola Solutions may share your information if required to do so by law, court order, subpoena or other legal process; as requested by a governmental or law enforcement authority; or to enforce applicable Terms of Use.  We may also disclose information about you if we determine that for purposes of national security, law enforcement, or other issues of public importance, disclosure is necessary or advisable.

Your Choices/Opt-out

WAVE is designed to access your location and will share it with others in your Talk Groups but you must opt-in to share your location. You can also opt-out at any time while you are signed in through your App Settings.

Technologies We Use

We will retain your choices under your App Settings such as sending of text notifications, location sharing, playing of the Group Call Incoming Sound, Map Type, Map Traffic Overlay, Profile, activated/deactivated Talk Groups, and Profile Selection.

If a cell call is made or received while you are signed into WAVE, no media can be transmitted or received, but you will continue to be signed in to WAVE, will receive events and can send messages, providing that you are on a carrier and plan allowing for both data and cellular calls, concurrently.

There are certain features in WAVE that allow an organization the use of ambient and/or discreet listening. Motorola Solutions does not have the ability or the authority to use the ambient and/or discreet listening features. Such features are in the control of, and enabled/disabled by, the organizations that have purchased WAVE. Any questions regarding the use of the features should be directed to such organization.

Data Transfer

As a global company, Motorola Solutions has international sites and users all over the world. Unless restricted by the Contract for WAVE or applicable law and regulation, the personal information you provide may be collected, transmitted, used, stored and otherwise processed outside of the country where you submitted that information, including jurisdictions that may not have data privacy laws that provide equivalent protection to such laws in your home country. Whenever Motorola Solutions handles personal information, regardless of where this occurs, we take appropriate steps to ensure that your information is treated securely and in accordance with the relevant Terms of Use, this Privacy Policy and all applicable laws and regulations.

Children's Privacy

We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 13 through this Application.  Applications developed by or on behalf of Motorola Solutions, Inc. and its world-wide affiliated companies and subsidiaries are intended for use by persons age 13 and over or as required by local law. Motorola Solutions does not seek to collect information about children under the age of 13. No information should be submitted using WAVE by users under 13 years of age. Motorola Solutions encourages parents to take an active role in their children's use of the Internet and download of applications, and ensure their personal information is not submitted for account registration for this Application.

Changes to Privacy Policy

We may add to or upgrade WAVE to provide you with new or enhanced features. We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect any changes in our collection or use practices. Therefore, please refer back to this Privacy Policy on a regular basis. Please be aware that, to the extent permitted by applicable law, our use of the Information is governed by the Privacy Policy in effect at the time we collect the Information.
