The challenge

Lancashire Constabulary's soon-to-expire camera system was presenting several obstacles for the force. The sign-out process was inefficient, with officers having to manually tag footage in Pronto upon returning to the station - a process prone to delays and inaccuracies. Access to footage was also restricted to a single station computer, upload speeds were slow, and a declining number of cameras frequently left officers without this vital resource.

The solution

The force deployed Motorola Solutions VB400 body cameras.

Training was a quick and straightforward process due to the system's ease of use. The deployment included VideoManager - for viewing the body camera footage - and its corresponding app, the VB400 Companion.

The impact

  • With the VB400 Companion app now embedded within Pronto, Bluetooth connectivity enables officers to capture, tag and report on body camera footage in real-time. They can create comprehensive and immediate incident documentation - directly from the field.

  • The VB400s have an automatic 30-second video pre-recording feature, ensuring officers don’t miss the start of an incident unfolding.

  • The VB400s can record for up to 12 hours of footage on a single charge. And when officers return to their stations at the end of their shift, the cameras are docked for charging and automatic footage upload - a process which takes a matter of minutes.

  • The VideoManager Digital Evidence Management desktop application integrates seamlessly with the force’s evidence management systems, allowing officers to view footage on any computer.

  • The highly available solution is improving evidence capture access and management, as well as accuracy, quality and transparency.
