About Poundland

Established in 2015, the Pepco Group N.V. incorporates the Poundland, Dealz and Pepco retail brands. The fast-growing discount retailer sells a wide range of good quality, reasonably priced products across its brands. They live by some modest but mighty goals: “Love our customers, care for our colleagues and protect the pounds”.

The challenge

Like many UK retailers, in recent years Poundland has experienced a rise in theft and aggression in store. Intent on protecting its employees and customers, and reducing losses, it sought a cost-effective solution.

The solution

Poundland was introduced to communications provider, CSE Crosscom, who analyzed their needs and delivered a detailed technology demonstration. This led to Poundland selecting Motorola Solutions, and our VT100 body camera for an initial pilot program in their Merry Hill store in Dudley.

Following the successful trial, our body cameras were deployed in 177 of the highest risk Poundland, Dealz and Pepco stores across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

Along with the on-premises body cameras, Poundland deployed our VideoManager software to prepare, process and share the videos.

The cameras were branded with bespoke logo labels, and engineers visited each store to manage and test the installation. CSE provided documentation and training on the system, whilst Poundland delivered its own in-house coaching on General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

With their long battery life and customer-friendly appearance, colleagues have found the VT100 easy to use
There’s been an 11 per cent decrease in incidents reported - specifically violence towards colleagues
The cameras act as a strong visual deterrent, and shrinkage has significantly reduced in stores where they’re deployed
The highly detailed, quality video and audio recordings provide a first-person perspective of incidents, serving as vital evidence for the loss prevention and investigations team, and the police - if necessary
