How it Works
Motorola Solutions and other Project 25 manufacturers understand the importance of having standards to ensure interoperability among multiple P25 systems and manufactured equipment Motorola believes that the entire community is best served with a rigorous and standardized approach to verifying interoperability.
Supporting the Project 25 standard
Motorola Solutions is supporting and implementing the P25 Compliance Assessment Program and is currently institutionalizing the P25 Compliance Assessment Program in our product development, testing, and factory procedures.
Working with the public safety community
Motorola Solutions is dedicated to working closely with our customers, industry, government and standards partners to ensure that the P25 standard achieves its stated interoperability objectives. P25 compliance is determined by evaluating equipment from a single or multiple manufacturers against a subset of standardized tests published by TIA and approved by Project 25. These standardized tests are part of the full P25 suite of standard documents published by TIA.
Defining the program
The subset of tests that P25/TIA consider appropriate to support interoperable communications are outlined by the Telecommunication System Bulletins (TSB) published by TIA. The P25 CAP Governing Board then issues a Compliance Assessment Bulletin (CAB) where the TSB is used as the basis for the creation of a CAB. After a CAB is issued, NIST/OLES will assess labs to conduct the testing in the CAB. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) will then recognize labs based on the assessments that NIST/OLES conducted. Once a lab is recognized it can conduct that particular type of P25 CAP testing that they were recognized to conduct. Based on the test results of a recognized lab a manufacturer may create and issue a formal Summary Test Report and Suppliers Declaration of Compliance (SDoC). These documents provide information about a specific manufacturer’s P25 equipment functionality and the types of "P25 Compliance " relevant to that equipment.
