R5.24

Cross-domain collaboration and enhanced scale - new features for WAVE PTX Tactical

Maintaining real-time, secure voice communications during critical operations can be difficult when your teams span multiple independent networks. As agencies demand broader interoperability and greater capacity, your system must grow to match the mission.

This is why Motorola Solutions is introducing WAVE PTX Tactical 5.24 - delivering powerful cross-domain bridging, massive scale expansion and streamlined backend management utilities.

Seamless cross-domain collaboration with WAVE PTX Tactical Link

The 5.24 release introduces WAVE PTX Tactical Link, a newly-licensed capability designed to facilitate more seamless collaboration across distinct operational domains.

WAVE PTX Tactical Link helps provide a secure, reliable method for voice communication and allows administrators to share WAVE PTX Tactical channels among users who are active in multiple, independent WAVE PTX Tactical domains. This breaks down communication silos during joint-agency responses without compromising individual domain security.

Please note: In this initial release, WAVE PTX Tactical Link participant channels are optimized strictly for secure audio communication (data services like texting, alerts and location updates are not supported).

Key feature highlights in 5.24

Increased capacity

WAVE PTX Tactical architecture has been heavily optimized to support major operations. A single system deployment can now accommodate up to 10,000 concurrent users, supporting 1,000 active WAVE PTX Tactical LMR channels and 2,000 active WAVE PTX Tactical Standard channels simultaneously.

Bulk import/export utility

For systems utilizing SQL Server 2022 Enterprise, a comprehensive new utility drastically simplifies user and radio administration. Administrators can now execute streamlined bulk provisioning for both User and Radio configurations – including ASTRO Conventional and ASTRO ISSI system settings – via optimized CSV formatting.

Visual log analysis and troubleshooting

WAVE PTX Tactical administrators can now easily visualize call flows and perform rapid troubleshooting directly within the WAVE PTX Tactical Management Server Portal. The new Proxy and Radio Gateway Log Analysis module allows you to upload log files and automatically generate visual sequence diagrams to pinpoint and fix communication failures on Trunked and Conventional ASTRO systems.

Key benefits

  • Reduces communication silos: WAVE PTX Tactical Link bridges independent networks, allowing multi-agency personnel to talk on shared channels effortlessly.

  • Built to scale: Expanded capacity supports 10,000 active users, helping to ensure your system holds steady during city-wide or large-scale critical events.

  • Minimizes administrative overhead: The Bulk Import/Export tool eliminates manual, click-heavy data entry, allowing IT staff to provision thousands of users in minutes.
  • Accelerates troubleshooting: Sequence diagrams map out complex log text into clean visuals, dropping the time it takes to diagnose and repair network or gateway issues.

Technical foundation and system health

WAVE PTX Tactical 5.24 also implements vital foundational software dependencies, including updates to .NET 10, OpenJDK (17.0.18), Log4J (2.25.4), OpenSSL (3.6.2) and 7-Zip (v26).

As a reminder to System Administrators, maintaining a healthy ecosystem requires routine database backups, virtual machine snapshots before and after applying security updates as well as active system hardening to protect against malicious vulnerabilities.

How to upgrade

To take advantage of these new capabilities, your agency must be prepared to migrate to the 5.24 software tier. Full upgrade paths and deployment best practices – including architectural white papers for 10K user capacity modeling – are available to guide your technical team.
