Putting Focus On What Matters: Cybersecurity Awareness Month

At Motorola Solutions, we continue to embrace National Cybersecurity Awareness Month as an opportunity to share information and resources to raise awareness about the importance of cybersecurity. We understand that effective cybersecurity can be the difference in creating a safe, protected and connected community. Keeping mission-critical networks up-and-running at maximum performance levels. That’s why we remain dedicated to ensuring that our customers and internal audiences fully understand the reality of today’s evolving cybersecurity landscape.

This year we observed October Cybersecurity Awareness Month with a number of external activities designed to generate awareness: 

Webinars: 

• Combating Cyberthreats: Two Cities. Two Agency Viewpoints: Together with leaders from Waukesha County (WI) Emergency Preparedness and City of Pismo Beach (CA), we discussed the processes, people and tools needed to safeguard public safety systems against cyber threats. Watch replay.

Blogs:

• Our blog collection discussed Cybersecurity Awareness month activities, the role of threat modeling in identifying security risks, and defense strategies for keeping PSAPs safe from attack.

Digital Materials:

• Our Fall Critical Communications Newsletter included our Security Monitoring Cost Quiz which enables agencies to see how they are doing managing security.
• A threat modeling white paper, PSAP security video and Cybersecurity Ecosystem brochure provided insights into the increasingly critical role of cybersecurity in public safety.
• Our recently released Trust Center web site provides transparency on how we manage compliance, privacy and security – both internally and externally.

Events: 

• APCO Fall Emerging Technology Forum: Dan Zeiler, Director of Cybersecurity for 9-1-1 Solutions at Motorola Solutions, presented “DDoS and TDoS – Defending Against the Great Threats” during the APCO TechTalk segment in Denver. 
• International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP), Chicago: At this year’s event, we promoted our cybersecurity services at our booth with demos showcasing how easily actors can hack into unsecured systems including a hacking demo of a USB infected with malware. We also provided an interactive experience that took visitors inside our Security Operations Center – simulating a real-time ransomware security event and how it is addressed.

In addition to raising awareness among our customers, we remain dedicated to developing an internal culture of cybersecurity. As such, we offered employees learning opportunities via cyber related webinars, podcasts, panel discussions and articles.
