The award bears the name of Jack Daniel, a public safety radio communications expert widely respected for his mastery of designing in-building and in-tunnel radio system signal coverage. He played a pivotal role educating public safety agencies and regulatory officials about the lifesaving importance of reliable radio communications for first responders. Jack was known as much for his humility as his expertise. He was always willing to share his knowledge with anyone who asked. The award in his name carries that spirit forward.

Michael's 40-year journey with APCO
Michael joined APCO in 1986 while working with the city of Boston EMS. Those early years grounded him in the day-to-day realities of public safety communications at a time when the field was changing fast.
His leadership came into sharp focus when he chaired the APCO 2000 conference in Boston — a landmark event that required vision, coordination and steady, experienced judgment.
Beyond that milestone, Michael played a key role in APCO's governance reform as a member of the Strategic Governance Initiative Task Force, which completely reshaped the organization's governance structure. These changes established the structures and standards that guide the organization today.
In 2001, APCO recognized him with the Life Member Award, the highest membership honor the organization confers.
More than two decades later, the recognition continues.
From Boston EMS to Motorola Solutions
After 23 years in public safety, Michael joined Motorola Solutions, moving into the world of 9-1-1 systems. The transition let him bring real field experience directly to bear on the technology that supports public safety communicators every day.
