Motorola Solutions wins 2014 International TETRA Award

Motorola Solutions and Queensland Gas Corporation (QGC) have been announced winners of a 2014 International TETRA Award as part of the TETRA-Critical Communications Association and TETRA Today magazine’s annual industry awards.

Announced at the awards’ annual ceremony on Feb 21 in London, UK, the organisations were recognised by industry peers and judges for Best Use of TETRA in Utilities in recognition of innovative use of digital radio at QGC’s liquefied natural gas project in southern Queensland.

Motorola Solutions has been working in partnership with QGC to deploy the digital network since 2011. The network, valued at AUD$32 million, is now one of the largest TETRA wireless networks in the Australia, having expanded from its original scope to include all communications in the field while the organisation’s fibre network is being deployed.

The expanded scope has ensured the company successfully meets its exploration schedule. In addition, the evolving data capabilities of the digital technology have enabled QGC to use the network for all of its critical communications in the field, including CCTV cameras in remote areas, as well as operational functions such as email, telephony and printing.

Now in its third year, the International TETRA Awards, a collaboration between the TETRA-Critical Communications Association and TETRA Today (quarterly TETRA magazine), has been designed to recognise excellence in product, applications and solutions deployed across the full range of TETRA activity in both mission-critical and business-critical organisations.

Motorola Solutions additionally won an award for Best TETRA Innovation for the global deployment of a photograph and intelligence communications system.
