Motorola Solutions Supports New Cybersecurity Policies
Company joins policy discussion at President Obama’s cybersecurity summit
SCHAUMBURG, Illinois – Feb. 13, 2015 – Motorola Solutions, Inc. (NYSE: MSI) was invited by the White House to participate in the White House Summit on Cybersecurity and Consumer Protection today at Stanford University in Palo Alto, California.
“Moving forward, it is essential that public and private sectors adopt a coordinated approach to achieving shared goals to improve cybersecurity,” said Motorola Solutions’ Robert Hoffman, corporate vice president of government affairs, who attended on behalf of the company. “Motorola Solutions supports efforts by the White House and the U.S. Congress to coordinate cyberthreat intelligence, and better improve cybersecurity capabilities throughout government and industry. Through greater public and private engagement, we can raise awareness and empower stakeholders to understand and act.”
The Summit brought together major stakeholders on cybersecurity, including senior leaders from the White House and federal government, executives from a broad range of industries including technology and communications companies as well as law enforcement officials, consumer advocates and technical experts.
Participants met to discuss key cybersecurity policy topics such as increasing public-private partnerships, improving cybersecurity information sharing and creating and promoting improved cybersecurity practices and technologies.
The President’s Executive Order on Critical Infrastructure Cybersecurity led to the development of the Cybersecurity Framework. Motorola Solutions participated alongside government and industry partners to help develop the National Institute of Standard’s (NIST) Cybersecurity Framework. The company incorporated the framework within its overall risk management process and continues to conduct outreach to encourage wider use.
Policy and political attention to cybersecurity continues to increase around the world to address a variety of threats from terrorist networks, malicious programmers and organized crime. The federal government can provide support to industry by enacting legislation that strengthens critical information sharing and advances operational measures to enhance cybersecurity.
