Motorola Solutions Progresses in Mission-Critical Push-to-Talk (MCPTT) Plugtest and LEX L11 Certification

  • Motorola WAVE powered by Kodiak tested in major plugtest event
  • Mission-critical LTE device Motorola LEX L11 successfully certified
CHICAGO – July 9, 2018 – Motorola Solutions, a leading provider of mission-critical communications solutions for public safety and commercial users, has participated in a successful week of plugtesting organized by the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) and The Critical Communications Association (TCCA) in Texas.

Plugtests are the initial verification of implementations of new standard protocols. They serve as a validation of the standard as well as an early practical test. Protocol plugtests will lead to product interoperability such as the TCCA Interoperability (IOP) Testing & Certification process and the P25 CAP process, which was developed to enable a trusted, open multi-vendor market for TETRA and P25 equipment.

“Standardization is the vehicle to guarantee and empower future-driven smart communication for public safety as well as commercial users,” said Kris Patel, vice president, Unified Communications at Motorola Solutions. “At Motorola Solutions, we are dedicated to being the leader in mission-critical communications solutions worldwide, and we put all our efforts in meeting the highest quality standards. This has made us an integral part of standardization initiatives across the world.”

During the week-long plugtest Motorola Solutions participated in testing for the 3GPP Release 14 Mission-Critical Push-To-Talk (MCPTT) and Mission-Critical Data (MCDATA) protocols, which build the foundation of its standardized WAVE Broadband Push-To-Talk (PTT) platform. These include solutions for high-performance PTT and flexible, ‘over-the-top’ broadband PTT, connecting disparate networks and enabling public safety and commercial users to communicate between smartphones, radios, computers and landlines. The event in Texas allowed Motorola Solutions and 30 leading industry corporations to test 1,900+ test cases successfully.

Motorola Solutions has a longstanding relationship with public safety organizations and enterprises. Motorola Solutions’ acquisition of Kodiak in 2017 saw the addition of a complementary, carrier-integrated PTT-over-cellular architecture to Motorola Solutions’ existing mission-critical WAVE PTT over broadband portfolio. The Kodiak architecture supports more than 1 million users.

LEX L11 MISSION-CRITICAL LTE DEVICE SUCCESSFULLY CERTIFIED
Motorola Solutions also announces today a number of certifications for its LEX L11 Mission-Critical LTE device, which was designed alongside first responders using global broadband networks. It enables first responders to access secure apps for increased situational awareness. The LEX L11 also offers a rugged and easy-to-operate design, best-in-class audio quality and performance, as well as an advanced end-to-end secure mobile platform and enhanced accessibility.

The LEX L11 has achieved several certifications over the last three months, including regulatory approval in the United States, the European Union and South Korea; Global Certification Forum (GCF) and PTCRB Certification – a pre-condition of mobile network operators to start their own testing. WIFI Alliance and Bluetooth SIG Certification have also been achieved.
