Motorola Solutions Celebrates 40 years in Malaysia

This is a significant milestone for Motorola Solutions, adding to a number of accolades that the company has received. They include the 2014 International TETRA Award, the Good Design award and the Red Dot Product Design Award 2014, to name a few. These awards are a testament to the company's dedication to serving customers with the best possible solutions and highest quality products in mission-critical communications technology.

In addition, the company continues to contribute to the development of local talent through its sponsorship of educational and research programs carried out by local institutions including the Universiti Sains Malaysia, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia and Multimedia University Malaysia. Participation in programs such as Collaborative Research in Engineering, Science & Technology (CREST), and in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education, have helped inspire student interest in these topics. The company’s commitment to developing the next generation of innovators drives research in the areas of engineering and sciences, and supports the Malaysian government's call for more programs that encourage students to strengthen their knowledge in the fields of science and mathematics.

Recently, the company appointed Dr. Hari Narayanan as managing director of the company’s operations in Penang. Dr. Hari succeeds Dato' Yew Tian Teik, and will oversee supply chain, research and development (R&D), the Global Solutions & Services Center and the Network Operations Centre.

Dr. Hari has had over two decades of experience with Motorola Solutions in Malaysia, including as senior director of engineering and head of research and development for the Penang center, where he played a key role in delivering numerous innovative products for customers worldwide. Key functions that Dr. Hari established include the Advanced Technology Group, the Program Management Office and the Product Quality Group. As a result of efforts to drive innovation, the R&D team has delivered a number of patented solutions for customers throughout the world.

Penang is Motorola Solutions’ only facility with both supply chain and R&D capabilities. Building on its forty years of achievement, Motorola Solutions will open a new R&D facility in Penang in September 2014.
