Motorola Solutions Awarded $37.2 Million Contract from Bucks County, Pennsylvania for ASTRO® 25 Interoperable Communications System

SCHAUMBURG, Ill. – Nov. 14, 2011 – Motorola Solutions, Inc. (NYSE: MSI) today announced that it has been awarded a contract from Bucks County, Pa. to provide the latest P25 communications technology, with increased radio system coverage and channel capacity, as well as greater interoperability among all public safety users in the county. Bucks County commissioners unanimously approved the contract for an ASTRO® 25 system with P25 Phase 2 TDMA trunking.

  • The new Bucks County ASTRO 25 system with P25 Phase 2 TDMA will enable the county and its 54 communities to meet the narrowbanding requirements set forth by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) before the Jan. 1, 2013 deadline.
  • The new system will be used by all public safety agencies in the county - including police, fire and EMS – and will provide interoperability and enhanced emergency response among agencies in the county. It will also enable future interoperability with surrounding agencies.
  • The P25 TDMA trunking feature for Motorola ASTRO 25 systems doubles the voice capacity of Frequency Division Multiple Access (FDMA) technology for more efficient use of spectrum, providing Bucks County public safety users with improved system access.
  • The P25 Phase 2 system will also provide all Bucks County system users with GPS capability, encryption for police radios and improved efficiency through over-the-air programming of radios, which will include Motorola Solutions APX™ portable radios.

Jim Mears, corporate vice president, Motorola Solutions
“Bucks County is making the right decision by addressing the FCC’s requirement to complete narrowbanding well in advance of the Jan. 1, 2013 deadline. In addition, the county has chosen the most advanced P25 solution available, allowing for easy migration of its existing and future communications technology to maximize its investment and enhance emergency response.”

John Dougherty, emergency services director, Bucks County, Pa.
“We are pleased to join forces with Motorola Solutions for this important public safety upgrade. I feel this is the best direction to go as far as the overall Emergency Services operation in Bucks County.”
