The Future of Policing Envisioned for Today’s Safety
Motorola Solutions uses virtual reality to power the command center of the future and shows how its Smart Public Safety Solutions turn data into intelligence now
The virtual command center demonstration immerses a participant into an incident scene through the eyes of a command center supervisor. Using virtual reality and eye-tracking technologies, the participant can navigate through video and data feeds from multiple sources in order to quickly coordinate resources and share information to officers on the scene, improving safety of first responders and the quality of an agency’s response.
Motorola Solutions will show live demonstrations of the virtual command center along with its Smart Public Safety Solutions portfolio Oct. 16-18 at the International Association of Chiefs of Police 2016 at the San Diego Convention Center at booth 3826.
“Exploring the potential of new technologies, including virtual reality, for public safety helps us create solutions that improve safety and efficiency for our customers,” said Paul Steinberg, chief technology officer for Motorola Solutions. “Whether it’s a proof of concept like the virtual command center or the Smart Public Safety Solutions available today, we believe in the power of technology to deliver the right information to the right person at the right time.”
Among the most effective tools for police are real-time crime centers and their respective applications that turn data into actionable intelligence, such as Motorola Solutions’ CommandCentral Aware.
Today’s public safety command centers can integrate the Project 25 standards-based, interoperable ASTRO® 25 land-mobile radio (LMR) network for mission-critical communications with the data capabilities of long-term evolution (LTE) broadband applications. Those LMR and LTE networks will complement each other for years to come, creating an opportunity to build devices, applications and services that deliver new capabilities for public safety agencies.
Police leaders from Detroit, Michigan, Chicago, Cleveland, Ohio, and the Niagara region of Ontario, Canada, will discuss how they use intelligence-led real-time crime centers to improve situational awareness in their respective cities at a panel discussion titled “The New Reality Of Situational Awareness: Life in the Real-Time Crime Center” at 8 a.m. today at the San Diego Convention Center.
In addition to the virtual reality demonstration at IACP, Motorola Solutions will continue to showcase its innovative thinking by unveiling new device management service packages. To address customer needs with maintaining and programming large inventories of APX™ two-way radios, Motorola Solutions is introducing three service packages – Essential, Advanced and Premier – to minimize the complexity of radio management, support and maintenance requirements. Each package provides customers with increasing support to help them save time and ensure their two-way radios are accurately deployed with the latest firmware and configurations needed to meet the demands of mission-critical public safety communications.
