Motorola Solutions, Together with KPN, Wins Commercial-User Contract for Nationwide TETRA Network in Netherlands

UTRECHT, Netherlands – July 30, 2013 – Motorola Solutions (NYSE: MSI), a leading provider of mission-critical communications solutions , has won together with KPN Critical Communications, a 10-year contract to supply, build and maintain a 200+ sites Terrestrial Trunked Radio (TETRA) digital radio network for Entropia Digital in the Netherlands. With the new TETRA network, Entropia Digital, a Belgian/Dutch TETRA network operator, will offer a subscription-based digital radio voice and data communications service for commercial users, such as transport and logistics, utilities and power generation, oil and gas, healthcare and seaport as well as other industries. The network will be implemented by the end of December 2014.

The TETRA network will be based on the award-winning Motorola Dimetra IP Release 8.x TETRA platform, which offers network operators a simple and cost-effective platform to deliver TETRA mission-critical communications to users. Motorola will offer a number of additional services through the 10- year maintenance contract including Life Cycle Management, which guarantees the system is kept current and at the highest level of support and availability via regular hardware and software updates.

  • Dimetra IP Release 8.x offers a simpler, more resilient and cost-effective TETRA system for supporting mission-critical voice and data applications, harnessing the advanced capabilities of a new IT server-based platform. The solution has been recognized by the industry through a prestigious award for its eco-friendliness.
  • Dimetra IP Release 8.x users are seeing a reduction of 70 percent in power consumption in switch sites, with a 60 percent reduction in physical space and footprint. The all-IP architecture carries over into the control room with an 80 percent reduction in power possible as the latest IT equipment is used.
  • Dimetra IP Release 8.x includes automated system upgrade functionality, which reduces upgrade time as well as the need for specialist and expensive support staff. The new system achieves practically seamless upgrades by reducing service outages by more than 60 percent compared with the previous system platform.
  • The Motorola TETRA portfolio comprises infrastructure solutions, terminals, applications and services, which are currently used in more than 120 countries around the world. The company continues to maintain its leading position in the area of TETRA digital radio solutions and has delivered more than 2 million TETRA digital radios worldwide.
