BEIJING - April 24, 2014 - Motorola Solutions, Inc. (NYSE: MSI), a leading provider of mission-critical communication solutions and services for enterprise and government customers, announced today that its cutting-edge 800MHz TETRA system has been deployed at five airports in China: Harbin Taiping International Airport, Lanzhou Zhongchuan Airport, Ordos Airport, Xiamen Gaoqi International Airport and Nanjing Lukou International Airport. This helped the airports upgrade their conventional analog system to TETRA. Working with its partners Skyblue Aviation Technology Ltd., Motorola Solutions has provided those five airports with switches and base stations, as well as more than 3,000 terminals. This upgrade reflects the trend in the communication industry of migrating from analog to digital, which not only addresses the growing demand for radio communication, but also enhances system reliability and scalability to further increase the operational and administrative efficiency of airports.
Passenger flows and cargo demands at domestic airports are rising rapidly along with the fast development of the Chinese economy, with annual passenger throughputs at many airports reaching tens of millions, which calls for higher requirements for airport radio communication system. Featuring Time Division Multiple Access (TDMA) technology, Motorola Solutions’ TETRA system delivers more powerful system functionality, more reliable voice quality, higher security performance and higher utilization of frequency resources. Offering great benefits in reliability, scalability, call setup and voice quality, Motorola Solutions’ TETRA can provide a stable, reliable and easy-to-manage communication service for users performing critical tasks.
In addition, customized application development with TETRA can provide users with more purpose-built applications that can benefit them more. By working with a GPS location system, it can automatically send user’ location to the dispatcher to optimize the dispatching efficiency, identify issues that may put the user at risk, and rapidly allocate resources for solving these issues. High-speed remote data access can help employees verify and upload data.
With annual passenger throughputs at the Nanjing Lukou International Airport, Harbin Taiping International Airport, Ordos Airport and Xiamen Gaoqi International Airport reaching tens of millions, the existing radio communication system at these airports can hardly meet their demands for fast development, and the system capacity and reliability have become a top priority. Replacing the analog communication system with a digital one is an inevitable trend due to limited frequency resources. The TETRA system’s superior performance and support for custom application development can meet these airports’ current demands and leave space for future expansion.
As an important domestic air link and a class I alternate airport for international flights on the Euro-Asia airway, Lanzhou Zhongchuan Airport plays a very important role. There are several terminals link to Zhongchuan Airport including Baiyin City Terminal and Dingxi Terminal, etc. After Baiyin City Terminal was put into operation, and Dingxi and Wuwei City Terminals were put into trial operation, the command and dispatch operations as we well receptions between terminals and the airport have imposed strict requirements for the selection of radio communication system. The TETRA system’s advantage of multi-channel intelligent management perfectly matches the demands.
Xu Shiyu, general manager, Information Department of Harbin Taiping International Airport
“As an international airport, we have very high standards in terms of reliability and security for our radio communication system, and expect it to offer us more assistance. To support our own business needs, we made application development over TETRA and matured GPS positioning functions that are used to locate, monitor and dispatch vehicles at the airport in a precise and timely manner, thus effectively increasing our administrative efficiency. Years of experience have proved that the quality of Motorola Solutions’ products is trustworthy, and that TETRA can increase the security and efficiency of our operations.”
Chen Ying, vice-general manager, Information Department of Xiamen Airlines
“With our annual passenger throughout approaching 20millions, Xiamen Gaoqi International Airport has a lot of requirements for our radio communication system. We selected Motorola Solutions’ TETRA to provide unified radio communication for the airport, various airlines, air traffic control system and other onsite units from the same system, thus reducing overall frequency occupation and effectively avoid frequency interference. Not only can TETRA simplify our communication management, but also its scalability can meet the demands of fast-growing airports like ours, and leave us more room for future expansion.”
Michael Jiang, chairman and president, Motorola Solutions China
“We are honored to provide these five airports with our TETRA system. Today, Motorola Solutions’ TETRA has been deployed at numerous airports worldwide. In China, we are not only serving international airports in Beijing, Shanghai and other capital cities, but also providing airports in other fast developing large and medium-sized cities with higher requirement in communication solutions. With superior products and solutions that can be used to build airport digital trunked systems, we can create best-in-class radio communication experiences for customers in China’s civil aviation sector through product development, technology innovation and service upgrading. We will continue to provide Chinese airports with more innovative civil aviation terrestrial communication, command and dispatch solutions.”
