Motorola Solutions, NAWLEE Announce 2013 Woman Law Enforcement Executive of the Year Award Recipient

SCHAUMBURG, Ill. – Aug. 2, 2013Motorola Solutions, Inc. (NYSE: MSI) is proud to announce that NAWLEE has selected Inspector Ruth Roy, Royal Canadian Mounted Police, for the Woman Law Enforcement Executive of the Year (WoLEEY) Award, jointly sponsored by the National Association of Women Law Enforcement Executives (NAWLEE) and Motorola. Jackie Wasni, vice president of Sales and Services for Motorola established this award eleven years ago to recognize women in law enforcement who have succeeded in their own careers and dedicated themselves to mentoring and helping develop other female law enforcement professionals.

During the past 12 years as a Commissioned Officer, Roy has worked in a variety of positions at the provincial and national levels. Roy is currently a member of the Prime Minister’s Protection Detail where she and her team are responsible for coordinating security for the Prime Minister of Canada and his family both domestically and abroad. Before her recent appointment, Inspector Roy spent the last 10 years as an executive in the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. She holds a bachelor’s degree from Mount Saint Vincent University in Business Administration. She began her law enforcement career in 1981.

In addition to her professional career, Inspector Roy spent one year working on a United Nations Mission in Haiti. While there she was the director of Basic Training for the Police Nationale d’Haiti (PNH). As such, she led a team of 45 international police officers from more than 23 different countries to assist with the development and delivery of PNH instructions for recruit level training. Due to her language ability, she was given the additional task of completing the daily and weekly reports for the Training. She also acted as the Chief of the academy and was responsible for leading the planning for future Training sessions.

Over the past 5 years, Inspector Roy has been involved with the International Consortium for Public Safety Leadership. Currently she is the lead on a research project focused on gender mainstreaming and studying whether some personality types have been underrated or under recognized in promotional assessments. Inspector Roy assembled the academic team with members from both Canada and the United States while even helping to design the research project.

Inspector Roy continually acts as a mentor to other officers, serving as a role model and offering practical career advice garnered from years of experience as a successful leader. Her management skills and mentoring of talent have drawn other acclaimed professionals to work alongside her. She continues to symbolize the best qualities of a NAWLEE award recipient.

Inspector Roy will receive the award at the annual NAWLEE conference held in Denver, CO on August 2, 2013 with more than 200 nationwide leaders in attendance.
