Motorola Solutions Awarded the First Public Service TETRA Radio Project by the Royal Brunei Police Force

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Brunei – Feb. 13, 2014 - Motorola Solutions, Inc. (NYSE: MSI), a leading provider of mission-critical communication solutions and services for government and enterprise customers, has been awarded a multimillion U.S. dollar contract to provide a nationwide Terrestrial Trunked Radio (TETRA) digital radio network to the Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF). This further attests to the trust that more than 2 million users have in TETRA digital radios from Motorola Solutions globally.

As part of its Strategic Planning Programme from 2007-2016, the RBPF has embarked on this National Digital Communication System (NDCS) to meet increasing expectations from citizens for public security and safety by government agencies that need to match with better service effectiveness and quality.

Led by the Royal Brunei Police Force, this will be the first such nationwide TETRA deployment for government agencies in Brunei. Aimed to eliminate duplication of resources and provide centralized emergency and operational information using encrypted, two-way digital radio communications, the NDCS eventually will be extended to other emergency and government agencies. This would greatly enhance seamless communications across agencies during joint field operations.

KEY FACTS

  • As part of a local consortium, Motorola Solutions will supply and deploy the latest highly redundant Dimetra IP TETRA switches and base stations to provide nationwide coverage, with more than 5,000 portable and mobile radios for RBPF and other key government agencies.
  • Having been a long-time user of communications solutions from Motorola, the RBPF has a high level of confidence, which is boosted by the positive experience of putting together an interim digital radio communication network and automatic vehicle location system for the ASEAN Summit 2013 held in Brunei last October. Within just two weeks of equipment delivery, the system was in operation for the three-day event that served more than 300 users and with no reported downtime.
  • When fully operational, the NDCS will be extended to other government agencies including the Fire & Rescue Department, Ambulance Service, National Disaster Management Center, Narcotics Control Bureau, Royal Custom, Immigration & Labor, Land Transport and Marine Department.
