Dave DeBaufer began his law enforcement career in 1987 as a public safety dispatcher with the Waukegan, Illinois Police Department.  Four years later, in 1991, he was sworn-in as a full-time police officer in Waukegan. Assigned to the Patrol Division for six years, Dave was regularly nominated by his peers as officer of the year.  In 1997 he was assigned to the Criminal Investigations Division where he handled juvenile crimes and sexual assaults. Waukegan began a street crimes unit in 2000 and Dave was tapped to join the 12-man team of drug and gang investigators.  He and his partner maintained a whopping 99% solve rate for gang-related shootings and homicides. In 2003 he was promoted to Sergeant and returned to the Patrol Division where he remained until 2008 when he was appointed Acting Commander of the Administrative Services Division overseeing the accreditation process and support services.

In 2014, he was tasked to replace an aging UHF radio system with a P25 digital system, upgrade the 911 call taking system, and implement a body-worn camera program.  Dave turned to Motorola and astoundingly implemented all of the projects in 18 months with absolutely no down-time or service interruptions. In 2017, Dave was officially promoted to Commander after a 26+ year career.  Dave joined Motorola in the fall of 2017 and has used his abilities to assist many of our customers in many deploying radios, body cameras, and our CommandCentral product suite.

Dave lives in the Chicagoland area with his wife of 28 years and his dog, Lobo.
