Congress established the State and Local Cybersecurity Grant Program (SLCGP) in 2021, a first-of-its kind grant program, to help states, local governments, rural areas, and territories address cybersecurity risks and cybersecurity threats to information systems. Congress further directed the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) and Federal Emergency Management Agency to jointly manage the nearly $1billion SLCGP.
