9-1-1 Heroes Art Contest 2026

Every year, National First Responders Day gives us a moment to recognize the firefighters, police officers, paramedics and 9-1-1 telecommunicators who serve as the calm voice and steady guide in our most vulnerable moments. At Motorola Solutions, we are incredibly proud to support this community through the technology we build.

But technology is only part of the story. At the end of the day, our work is fundamentally about the people behind the screens and the badges. And sometimes, the most powerful way to connect a community is to step away from the digital world and create something beautiful by hand.

That is why we partnered with the North Central Texas Emergency Communication District (NCT9-1-1) to launch the 9-1-1 Heroes Art Contest — a joint regional initiative that invites K–12 students to create original artwork honoring the local public safety heroes in their neighborhoods. By combining the community reach and local public safety expertise of NCT9-1-1 with the resources of Motorola Solutions, this partnership has turned student creativity into lasting public landmarks.

There is a unique magic when you take a young student's gratitude and transform it into a massive public wall. This summer has been a whirlwind of that exact magic. Just weeks after coming together to unveil a stunning piece in Bridgeport, Texas, we found ourselves gathered once again — this time across from the police department in Erath County — to bring another incredible story from canvas to community.

These public murals mean something deeply personal to the kids who see their imagination scaled to the size of a building, to the parents watching their children shine, and to the local first responders who drive past these walls every single shift knowing their community truly sees them.

Celebrating last season's winner: Selene Moreno

Our latest public landmark honors the vision of Selene Moreno, an incoming ninth grader and the official winner of last season's contest.

Selene’s journey to this wall is a beautiful testament to local pride and connection. Her original artwork was first selected from a highly competitive field of over 600 regional student submissions. From there, the decision was handed over to the public, where her peers family, and neighbors cast over 2,000 votes, ultimately choosing her inspiring, unified vision to represent their town.

To bring her artwork to life, local mural artist Chris Sandoval completely transformed the brick canvas. Working closely with the community, Chris hand-sketched and scaled the design to fill the entire wall, capturing the true heart and emotional depth of Selene's original illustration.

A celebration of unity

The dedication ceremony on Aug. 1 brought together neighbors, local leaders and the very public safety professionals who inspire Selene's art. The afternoon was filled with high energy, community pride and moving remarks from local voices.

Bring the 9-1-1 Heroes Art Contest to your hometown

While this program grew out of the partnership with NCT9-1-1, it was built from the ground up to be a plug-and-play blueprint that any public safety agency and corporate partner can adopt. You don't need an endless pool of resources to create this kind of impact — our team has already done the heavy lifting.

We provide an extensive program playbook packed with timelines, school outreach flyers, templates and graphics. But we also know that outreach is never one-size-fits-all. Because every town has its own unique heart, and our team works hand-in-hand with yours to tailor the contest to fit your specific agency goals and community personality.

With National First Responders Day right around the corner, now is the perfect time to spark excitement in your hometown. Let us help you create an unforgettable experience that your community will look at and smile about for years to come.
